The short version
- Your voice recordings, and their transcripts, stay on your phone: we never upload or store either one on any server.
- We sync a small amount of usage data: word count, minutes journaled, and your app progress (coins, streaks), so your account works across the app. Never the content itself.
- We use Firebase for sign-in and notifications, Supabase to store your synced data, and RevenueCat to process the one-time Premium purchase. We don't build our own ad network or tracking, and we don't sell your data to anyone.
- You can ask us to delete your account and data at any time.
1. What we collect
When you use Gossip Rabbit, we collect and store the following, tied to your account:
- Usage numbers: the word count and duration (minutes) of each entry. Not the words themselves, just the counts, so we can show you stats like how much you've journaled.
- App progress: coins earned, streaks, owned accessories and clothing, and purchase status.
- Basic account info: whatever identifier is created when you sign in (handled through Firebase Authentication), used to keep your data attached to you across devices.
- Purchase confirmation: if you buy Premium, RevenueCat confirms the purchase happened through Google Play Billing. We do not see or store your card details.
2. What we never collect or store
This is the part we think matters most:
- Your voice recordings. The actual audio file of every entry you record is saved only in local storage on your own device. It is never uploaded to our servers, never backed up by us, and never seen by anyone at Gossip Rabbit.
- Your transcripts. Speech-to-text transcription happens entirely on your device. The transcribed text of your entries is never sent to us or stored on our servers. Only the word count is.
- Photos. If you attach a photo to an entry, it follows the exact same rule: stored locally on your device only, never uploaded.
- Payment card details. We never see or store your card number, billing address, or any raw payment information. That's handled entirely by Google Play Billing.
Practically, this means if you uninstall the app or lose your phone without a backup, your original audio recordings, transcripts, and photos are gone with it, but your usage numbers and progress (coins, streaks) remain safely attached to your account since those are the only things we sync.
3. How we use what we collect
We use your synced data (usage numbers, progress) to:
- Keep your streaks and unlocked items available across app sessions and, eventually, across devices.
- Show you basic stats about how much you've journaled.
- Send you notifications, like letting you know your monthly recap is ready.
- Confirm and apply your Premium purchase if you buy it.
Your monthly recap itself (the streaks, moods, and word patterns it shows you) is calculated entirely on your own device, directly from your local entries. It is not generated by us on a server.
We do not use your data to build advertising profiles, and we do not run third-party ads inside the app.
4. Third-party services we use, and why
We rely on a small number of established providers to run the app. Here's exactly what each one does and what it can see:
Firebase (Google)
Handles account sign-in and delivers push notifications (like your monthly recap being ready). Firebase does not have access to your voice recordings.
Supabase
Stores your synced usage numbers (word count, minutes journaled) and app progress in a database tied to your account, so it's available whenever you open the app. Supabase never receives your raw audio files or transcripts.
RevenueCat
Processes the one-time $9.99 Premium purchase through Google Play Billing (and Apple's equivalent, once iOS is available) and tells our app whether you're a Premium user. RevenueCat does not process or store your actual card details. That stays with Google/Apple.
We do not use any third-party advertising networks, ad trackers, or analytics tools that sell or share your personal data with advertisers.
5. Your rights
- Access: you can ask us what data we hold about your account.
- Deletion: you can ask us to delete your account and all associated synced data (usage numbers, progress) at any time. Since voice recordings and transcripts only ever live on your own device, deleting the app itself removes those. See our Delete My Account page for exact steps.
- Correction: if something about your account data is wrong, let us know and we'll fix it.
Right now, these requests are handled by emailing us directly (see Contact below) rather than through an automated in-app flow. We respond to every request personally.
6. Children's privacy
Gossip Rabbit is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we'll remove it.
7. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
Questions about your data?
Email us directly and we'll get back to you, including for access, correction, or deletion requests.
